Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t see what you’re looking for here, give us a call!

Where are you located?

A New Page Counseling is located at the following address:

8647 Baypine Road
Suite 206
Jacksonville, FL 32256

Or, as long as you’re in Florida at the time of your appointment, we can work together online!

What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?

We offer reminders via voice call, text, and/or email to avoid missed appointments. If you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, you can do so by phone at (904) 580-4535.

Cancellations, no-shows, and rescheduled sessions without 24 hours’ notice will be subject to a cancellation fee of $190 (individuals), $240 (couples), and $70 (groups). The fee will be charged to your credit card on file. You can always use your client portal, https://www.therapyportal.com/p/anewpage/, to make any necessary changes.

This is necessary because a time commitment is reserved exclusively for you, and without 24 hours’ notice, we can’t reschedule this time for another client.

Is there paperwork to get started?

Before your first appointment, you will receive initial documentation to complete via a secure web portal. If you cannot complete this documentation electronically, please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to do so in the office. You may be asked to complete additional paperwork or assessments based on the information provided.

What can I expect during my first visit?

Your first appointment will be a little different from our typical session. We will ask you a broad range of questions to understand your background and mental health history, identify your goals for counseling, explain your rights as a client, and answer any questions that you might have about the counseling process. This will provide an essential framework for our work together.

What are your fees?

Our fees are based on specialized expertise and standard rates for clinicians. Our rates are $190 per 50-minute session for individual sessions,  $240 per 75-minute for couples session, and $70 per 90-minute group sessions.

We provide a sliding scale or reduced-rate services at present. The fee is due at the time of the session, unless we are billing your insurance company.

For Assessments, our rates start at $1,000 and are not covered by insurance. Half of the payment is due upon initial assessment, and the remainder is due at the time the report is given. We welcome you to discuss your treatment and financial needs with us.

Does this practice accept insurance?
We accept the following:

Aetna
United Health Care (and most of its plans)
Optum
BCBS Florida/Florida Blue (and most of its plans)
VA Community Care
Humana Provider
Medicare (on a case-by-case basis)

Most plans are in-network. For all others, we offer a statement (super bill) to submit to insurance for out-of-network benefits. Insurance companies typically cover 30-70% of their allowed rate. Some cover more.

How do I submit a superbill?

While our practice is not responsible for out-of-network reimbursements, here are some questions and steps to consider:

  • Tell your insurance provider that you would like to submit a superbill for psychiatric services.
  • Ask how much they will cover for an out-of-network psychiatric evaluation and ongoing psychiatric services.
  • Ask where you can send the superbill (i.e., fax number), and how you can follow up to ensure they receive it.
  • The insurance company should then send you the reimbursement money. Ask what the timeline is for receiving your reimbursement, confirm they have your address (or how you will get it), and what number you can call or how you can track your payment.

You can also look up information on the internet for submitting superbills to insurance for reimbursement.

What if I can’t afford to pay?

Please let me know, and we can discuss a payment plan.

What are your accepted payment methods?

You can pay via any major credit card, FSA card, HAS card, Paypal, Venmo, or Cash App.

How soon can I be seen?
We can typically offer an initial evaluation appointment within 1 – 2 weeks.
How long will I be in therapy?

It depends on you and your progress. Typically, folks are in therapy between 7 and 24 sessions. We’ll never rush your progress, though.

Depending on the concerns being addressed, sometimes fewer sessions are needed, and sometimes more sessions are recommended. Some clients choose to continue treatment after experiencing initial improvement in order to maintain treatment gains.

What is the duration of the sessions?
  • Crisis management sessions are 23-32 minutes.
  • Individual sessions are 53-55 minutes.
  • Couples sessions are 60-75 minutes.
  • Family/Group sessions are 60-90 minutes.
Do I have to lie on a couch?

Haha, great question! The classic “lie on the couch” is more of a movie stereotype than a reality.

In most therapy sessions, you don’t have to lie down unless you want to. It’s all about what makes you comfortable!

We can chat while sitting in chairs, curled up on a couch, or even having a walk if that feels better.

The key is creating a space where you feel safe to talk and explore what’s on your mind. So, there’s no pressure to recline like you’re in a Hollywood film! 😊
